Investigators Look for Cause in Dayang Topaz Accident
As we reported preciously, two crew were killed and 125 jumped overboard after the vessel lost its anchor in adverse weather and made contact with an offshore platform at the Baram Field located approximately 14 nautical miles off the coast of Borneo island in Malaysia.
In total, there were 187 personnel on board the Dayang Topaz at the time of the accident.
The Dayang Topaz is owned by DESB Marine Services Sdn Bhd and was undertaking operational work at the Baram platform. The vessel sailed to Miri anchorage after the accident.
“A thorough assessment of the platform structures is being carried out. PETRONAS is committed to undertaking all the necessary measures to ensure that the platform structures remain safe and secure,” an update from Petronas said on Thursday.
“Preliminary investigations by PETRONAS also revealed that the incident did not cause any impact to the environment. PETRONAS will continue to work with the relevant authorities to monitor the situation and conduct further assessments to ensure any eventuality is addressed swiftly,” the update said.
