Hapag-Lloyd Containership Cleared to Sail After COVID-19 Quarantine in South Africa

As we reported previously, two crew members on board the Hapag-Lloyd-chartered containership MV Montpellier tested positive for COVID-19 after the ship arrived in Durban on May 17. As a result of the ship was ordered to quarantine at a Durban anchorage for 14 days.

An update from Hapag-Lloyd on Thursday said that all crew members on board have fully recovered and tested negative for the virus.

The Montpellier has now been cleared to enter the Port of Durban for a deep cleaning.

Cargo operations were expected to commence on Thursday and all containers that are intended for discharge in Durban and Cape Town will be offloaded.

The MV Montpellier is now scheduled to depart Durban on June 20 with arrival at Tema, Ghana on June 27 followed by Lagos Tincan, Nigeria on July 1.
