PSA snaps up Duisburg terminal stake

Singapore-based terminal operator PSA International has agreed to acquire a 22% of Germany’s Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) currently under construction at Europe’s top inland port.

With an area of 235,000 sq m, DGT will be the largest and the first 100% climate-neutral container terminal in the European hinterland when completed. The first construction phase is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2024.

“As part of Europe’s largest and most sustainable inland port, DGT will be a key gateway in providing green logistics services to Germany’s dense industrial hinterland,” said Tan Chong Meng, CEO of PSA.

The deal is subject to Germany’s competition and supervisory authorities’ approval and if approved PSA will join Hupac, HTS and Port of Duisburg (Duisport) as shareholders. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

“This network expansion strengthens both the competitive diversity and the further diversification of the Port of Duisburg. The topic of supply chain diversification has an increasingly important meaning,” added Duisport CEO Markus Bangen.

PSA has been expanding its footprint in Europe, with operations in Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Italy and Turkey.
