TotalEnergies tops suezmax charter league 

French energy major TotalEnergies is climbing the tanker chartering ranks fast. 

Looking at the top reported dirty spot charterers for the first half of the year, broker Poten & Partners has reported TotalEnergies has topped the suezmax rankings as well as making a significant impact in the aframax sector. 

For suezmax charters, the French energy major ranked tenth worldwide in 2021, second in 2022 and is now first, replacing ExxonMobil. 

In the aframax segment, Chevron and BP shared the top spot in H1 this year, both with 59 fixtures. TotalEnergies improved its ranking in this segment leaping from tenth in 2022 to a shared 3rd position with Vitol.

As has been the way for many years, China’s Unipec maintained its dominant position at the top of the VLCC chartering segment in the first half of the year, according to data from Poten.
