The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Center (MSC) has granted its 31th ballast water management system (BWMS) type approval certificate to Japan-based company Miura Co. Ltd.<\/strong> <\/p>\n The certificate was issued on 7 May after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the systems met the necessary requirements. <\/p>\n The system was examined and tested by independent laboratory Korean Register, according to the coast guard. <\/p>\n Specifically, the treatment principle of the Miura HK-(E)R consists of filtration and UV treatment during uptake and UV treatment during discharge.<\/p>\n This approval covers models with maximum intake treatment rated capacities between 200 cbm\/h and 900 cbm\/h. <\/p>\n “This BWMS has not been verified to meet the requirements of 46 CFR Subchapter F and J, and may not be installed on a U.S. flag vessel.
