{"id":9513,"date":"2020-05-08T23:38:26","date_gmt":"2020-05-08T20:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/amsa-63-shipping-containers-lost-from-ym-efficiency-recovered\/9513\/"},"modified":"2020-05-08T23:38:26","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T20:38:26","slug":"amsa-63-shipping-containers-lost-from-ym-efficiency-recovered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/amsa-63-shipping-containers-lost-from-ym-efficiency-recovered\/9513\/","title":{"rendered":"AMSA: 63 shipping containers lost from YM Efficiency recovered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p> <strong>The five-week subsea operations to recover shipping containers lost from the YM Efficiency off the New South Wales coast are complete, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p> On 8 May, the vessel MV Pride returned to Port of Newcastle for the final time to discharge containers and pollution recovered from the ocean floor. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.offshorewind.biz\/file\/sites\/6\/2020\/05\/08104205\/amsa.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-282152\" \/><figcaption>Image Courtesy: AMSA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p> The recovery operation began on 3 April and has seen 63 containers and tonnes of associated pollution successfully recovered from the ocean. <\/p>\n<p> AMSA\u2019s General Manager of Response <strong>Mark Morrow<\/strong> said that the operation has been a complete success. <\/p>\n<p> <em>\u201cBy recovering these containers and the tonnes of plastic and other rubbish contained inside we have ensured that future generations are not picking up Yang Ming\u2019s mess off the region&#8217;s beaches for decades to come.&#8221;<\/em> <\/p>\n<p> <em>\u201cThis project was forecast to take a month and was done in 35 days, including 7.5 days of delay for weather.&#8221;<\/em> <\/p>\n<p> <em>\u201cAlso, although originally expecting 60, we have recovered 63 containers, a remarkable result,&#8221;
