{"id":7042,"date":"2020-03-30T17:43:41","date_gmt":"2020-03-30T14:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/coronavirus-hit-cruise-ship-allowed-to-transit-panama-canal\/7042\/"},"modified":"2020-03-30T17:43:41","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T14:43:41","slug":"coronavirus-hit-cruise-ship-allowed-to-transit-panama-canal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/coronavirus-hit-cruise-ship-allowed-to-transit-panama-canal\/7042\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus-Hit Cruise Ship Allowed to Transit Panama Canal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Holland America Line\u2019s 238-meter (781-foot) MS Zaandam vessel can now continue its trip to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but\u00a0Panama\u2019s government underscored that no passengers or crew members would be allowed to set foot on\u00a0Panamanian soil.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPanama\u00a0will guarantee biosecurity measures to protect the personnel who will participate in this maneuver and thus safeguard the health of\u00a0Panamanians,\u201d the government said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The Zaandam, which was previously on a South American cruise, was denied access to the\u00a0Panama\u00a0Canal\u00a0for sanitary reasons, leaving passengers and crew wondering when they would get home.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Holland America, which is owned by Carnival Corp, sent the Rotterdam sister ship to the area as\u00a0Panama\u2019s Maritime Authority said 401 asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to transfer from the Zaandam to the other ship.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>There are 1,243 guests and 586 crew on board the Zaandam, as well as four doctors and four nurses, the cruise operator has said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the day, passengers on the Zaandam have been boarding onto tenders pulled up on the port side of the ship for transfer to the Rotterdam, according to a passenger.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have been transferring to the Rotterdam, about 60 an hour.
