{"id":6904,"date":"2020-03-27T04:58:46","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T01:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/norwegian-cruise-line-investigated-for-alleged-downplaying-of-covid-19-risks\/6904\/"},"modified":"2020-03-27T04:58:46","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T01:58:46","slug":"norwegian-cruise-line-investigated-for-alleged-downplaying-of-covid-19-risks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/norwegian-cruise-line-investigated-for-alleged-downplaying-of-covid-19-risks\/6904\/","title":{"rendered":"Norwegian Cruise Line Investigated for Alleged Downplaying of COVID-19 Risks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Florida attorney general Ashley Moody\u2019s office has launched an investigation into alleged misleading sales pitches from Norwegian Cruise Line about the impact of the coronavirus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The attorney general\u2019s office said that it was looking into media reports of NCL providing inaccurate one-liners to customer concerns downplaying the severity and highly contagious nature of the novel coronavirus in an effort to close cruise package sales.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>According to a whistleblower leaked emails to the media, NCL managers encouraged employees to downplay the risks associated with contracting COVID-19 with lines like,<em> \u201cthe only thing you need to worry about for your cruise is do you have enough sunscreen,\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cthe coronavirus can only survive in cold temperatures, so the Caribbean is a fantastic choice for your next cruise.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Following this news, Norwegian Cruise Line\u2019s stock price fell USD <span class=\"xn-money\">5.47<\/span> per share, or 26.68%, to close at USD <span class=\"xn-money\">15.03<\/span>\u00a0per share on\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">March 11, 2020<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are in the thick of a public health crisis like our modern world has never experienced. My Consumer Protection Division is conducting an extensive investigation to get to the bottom of the disturbing allegations against Norwegian Cruise Lines. Let this serve as a warning to anyone seeking to mislead consumers during these challenging times,\u201d<\/em> Attorney General Ashley Moody said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>US-based law firm Kaplan Fox &amp; Kilsheimer LLP informed that it was also looking into the matter on behalf of investors of Norwegian Cruise Line.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The investors in question purchased NCL\u2019s securities between <span class=\"xn-chron\">February 20, 2020,<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">March 12, 2020<\/span>, when coronavirus already started impacting the cruise market.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The company said that members of the proposed class can move to the court no later than\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">May 11, 2020<\/span>\u00a0to serve as a lead plaintiff for the purported class.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>NCL is said to be fully cooperating with the investigation at this stage.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>World Maritime News is yet to receive a statement from the company on the matter.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Norwegian suspended all cruise voyages embarking between March 13 and April 11, 2020 for its three cruise brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The temporary suspension decision was assigned to joint efforts in the industry to contain the spread of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>world maritime news<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Florida attorney general Ashley Moody\u2019s office has launched an investigation into alleged misleading sales pitches from Norwegian Cruise Line about the impact of the coronavirus.
