{"id":6830,"date":"2020-03-26T01:49:57","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T22:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/covid-19-hapag-lloyd-adds-100000-teu-of-capacity-to-keep-goods-moving\/6830\/"},"modified":"2020-03-26T01:49:57","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T22:49:57","slug":"covid-19-hapag-lloyd-adds-100000-teu-of-capacity-to-keep-goods-moving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/covid-19-hapag-lloyd-adds-100000-teu-of-capacity-to-keep-goods-moving\/6830\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Hapag-Lloyd Adds 100,000 TEU of Capacity to Keep Goods Moving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>German container shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has on-hired over 100,000 TEU of additional equipment across the globe to keep the supply chain flowing amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the carrier, many ports in China have so far returned to normal operations, and scheduled sailings and bookings ex-China are gradually increasing.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>As explained, the company is doing \u2018everything in its power\u2019 to maintain uninterrupted service, with no significant disruptions to work productivity or customer service.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur vessels are today operating as usual and our service structure is largely unchanged,\u201d <\/em>Rolf Habben Jansen, Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s CEO said in a COVID-19 update.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>To help prevent the disease from spreading, the company has introduced a number of measures for its onshore and offshore employees. This includes additional safety measures being implemented onboard Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s boxships. Moreover, the company\u2019s crews are currently not changing ships in high-risk areas.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo far the crisis has had only limited impact on our business, but we expect a significant effect of the virus on global container traffic in the months to come, and if this happens we will have to make some adjustments to the network,\u201d<\/em> Jansen noted.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Hapag-Lloyd managed <a href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/291193\/hapag-lloyd-cheers-80-pct-higher-operating-profit-in-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to significantly improve its profitability and reduce debt<\/a> more than planned.
