{"id":5060,"date":"2020-02-24T14:55:03","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T11:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/gtt-acquires-icelandic-smart-shipping-solutions-provider\/5060\/"},"modified":"2020-02-24T14:55:03","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T11:55:03","slug":"gtt-acquires-icelandic-smart-shipping-solutions-provider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/gtt-acquires-icelandic-smart-shipping-solutions-provider\/5060\/","title":{"rendered":"GTT Acquires Icelandic Smart Shipping Solutions Provider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>French engineering company Gaztransport &amp; Technigaz (GTT) has acquired 100% of the share capital of Marorka, an Iceland-based company specializing in smart shipping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Marorka designs maritime energy monitoring and optimization systems for vessels, allowing them to reduce their environmental footprint.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Representing a new milestone in the GTT\u2019s digital strategy, the Icelandic company is said to be <em>\u201ca good technical, commercial and geographical complement\u201d<\/em> to Ascenz, GTT\u2019s subsidiary based in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are glad to become part of the GTT group; joining forces with Ascenz and GTT experts will boost our presence,\u201d<\/em> Darri Gunnarsson, CEO of Marorka, commented.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe share the same vision on smart shipping and its increasing contribution to the improvement of shipping\u2019s operational and environmental performance,\u201d <\/em>Gunnarsson added.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis acquisition is an important new step in GTT\u2019s digital roadmap. Smart shipping is an essential component to allow the shipping industry to reduce its environmental footprint,\u201d <\/em>Philippe Berterotti\u00e8re, Chairman and CEO of GTT, said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Funded in cash, the transaction will have no significant impact on the group\u2019s financial structure. The previous owners will continue to manage the company and will notably contribute their know-how and experience to the GTT\u2019s digital strategy, the French company said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The shipping industry has started its environmental transition in January 2020, when a new IMO regulation entered into force, imposing significant reductions in sulphur oxide emissions. The IMO has furthermore announced a long-term low-carbon strategy, including ambitious decarbonization targets.
