{"id":3889,"date":"2019-11-29T14:13:26","date_gmt":"2019-11-29T11:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/?p=3889"},"modified":"2019-11-29T14:13:28","modified_gmt":"2019-11-29T11:13:28","slug":"maersk-kicks-off-office-workforce-cuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/maersk-kicks-off-office-workforce-cuts\/3889\/","title":{"rendered":"Maersk Kicks Off Office Workforce Cuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Danish shipping giant Maersk has confirmed that it would be reducing the number of employees in its offices in both Denmark and abroad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company said the layoffs arose from the need to reduce costs in its head office functions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How many jobs will be axed is yet unknown as Maersk itself is still evaluating the extent of cuts that are necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThe savings are a natural part of the ongoing priority, where we focus on supporting our strategy and creating value for our customers,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0a Maersk spokesperson said in response to a World Maritime News inquiry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The layoff procedure starts as Maersk continued improving profitability\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/286470\/maersks-operating-results-up-despite-lower-container-demand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the third quarter of the year<\/a>\u00a0despite a decrease in revenue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThe strong performance for the quarter combined with our expectations for the rest of the year, led to the recent upgrade of our earnings expectations for 2019. We will continue our focus on profitability and free cash flow in the fourth quarter and into 2020,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0S\u00f8ren Skou, CEO of A.P.
