{"id":3725,"date":"2019-11-08T01:49:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T22:49:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/?p=3725"},"modified":"2019-11-08T01:49:19","modified_gmt":"2019-11-07T22:49:19","slug":"norwegian-cruise-line-strengthening-its-position-in-alaska","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/norwegian-cruise-line-strengthening-its-position-in-alaska\/3725\/","title":{"rendered":"Norwegian Cruise Line Strengthening Its Position in Alaska"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings revealed\u00a0strategic initiatives to further strengthen its position in the fast growing, popular Alaska cruise market.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Namely, the company recently entered into a 30-year preferential berthing agreement with Ward Cove Dock Group, LLC, which allows for construction of a new double ship pier in Ward Cove, Ketchikan, Alaska.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The pier will be built to simultaneously accommodate two of Norwegian Cruise Line\u2019s 4,000 passenger Breakaway Plus class ships and is expected to be ready for the summer 2020 season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, the company won a competitive bid for the last waterfront parcel in greater Juneau, Alaska and is engaging local stakeholders, including government, business and community leaders to develop a plan which will benefit both the city, its various stakeholders and the company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The investments follow Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings\u2019 partnership with Alaska Native-owned Huna Totem Corporation to develop a second cruise pier in Icy Strait Point, Huna Totem\u2019s world-class cruise ship destination in Hoonah, Alaska.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThe natural beauty of Alaska makes it one of the most popular destinations to visit, and our investments in the region will enable us to provide our guests with a best-in-class experience as they explore the wonders of the Last Frontier,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThese strategic initiatives mark the latest steps in our ongoing efforts to promote economic development in the region and make a positive economic and environmentally sensible impact on the Alaska tourism industry.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition to its development initiatives in Alaska, the company was awarded a concession contract through 2029, that went into effect on October 1, allowing Norwegian Cruise Line to operate cruises within Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve.
