{"id":3600,"date":"2019-10-29T12:40:38","date_gmt":"2019-10-29T09:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/?p=3600"},"modified":"2019-10-29T12:40:40","modified_gmt":"2019-10-29T09:40:40","slug":"seaspan-welcomes-bc-govts-decision-to-set-up-sts-lng-bunkering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/seaspan-welcomes-bc-govts-decision-to-set-up-sts-lng-bunkering\/3600\/","title":{"rendered":"Seaspan Welcomes BC Govt\u2019s Decision to Set Up STS LNG Bunkering"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Canada-based shipping group Seaspan Marine Transportation has welcomed the British Columbia government\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/285269\/british-columbia-to-set-up-ship-to-ship-lng-bunkering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcement<\/a>\u00a0to support the establishment of ship-to-ship LNG marine refueling services on the west coast of North America.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cWe strongly believe that this is a step in the right direction toward creating a lower carbon future and fully support future LNG activities in our province,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Seaspan pointed out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With this move, the BC government joined the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and FortisBC to set up STS LNG bunkering, addressing the increased need for LNG in the maritime sector.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Premier John Horgan committed CAD 25,000 (about USD 19,100) in support of a study to examine the environmental, competitive and social impact of LNG bunkering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Five years ago, Seaspan committed to LNG as a viable marine fuel source on the West Coast and has since invested in the technology and logistics to ensure it has a safe source of LNG to fuel the company\u2019s vessels. In addition, Seaspan was among the first companies to establish onboard truck-to-ship LNG bunkering for its new fleet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Seaspan currently operates two LNG-hybrid fueled RoRo ferries, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/277400\/seaspan-ferries-to-expand-fleet-with-new-lng-hybrid-vessels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">two more on order<\/a>\u00a0for delivery in 2021. Since introducing these vessels to the company\u2019s fleet, Seaspan has been able to significantly reduce greenhouse gas, sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThe two LNG hybrid vessels currently in our fleet have operated with greenhouse gas emission reductions of over 50% compared to traditional vessels; a large part of which is directly linked to the use of LNG fuel,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Frank Butzelaar, Chief Executive Officer, Seaspan Marine Transportation, said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201cThese results prompted the planned expansion of our fleet of LNG vessels.
