{"id":34318,"date":"2023-07-19T22:54:29","date_gmt":"2023-07-19T19:54:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/canada-dockworkers-ordered-to-end-strike\/34318\/"},"modified":"2023-07-19T22:54:29","modified_gmt":"2023-07-19T19:54:29","slug":"canada-dockworkers-ordered-to-end-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/canada-dockworkers-ordered-to-end-strike\/34318\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada dockworkers ordered to end strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content entry clearfix\">\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-before-post\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>A renewed strike by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada has been declared illegal following a ruling by the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB).<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s labour minister, Seamus O\u2019Regan, said in a tweet the labour watchdog ordered that the union cease and desist any strike activity because it did not provide 72-hour notice.<\/p>\n<p>The strike that has shut down British Columbia\u2019s ports <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/canada-port-strike-resumes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resumed Tuesday<\/a><\/span> after the union representing over 7,000 dockworkers rejected a tentative four-year deal agreed with employers last week.<\/p>\n<p>The board, which is an independent body, ordered that any member of the union who is participating in strike activity \u201cimmediately perform the duties of their employment as per the collective agreement and applicable dispatch rules\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The industrial action is estimated to have frozen billions of dollars worth of cargo from moving in and out of ports, including at Canada\u2019s busiest, Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 13-day strike had already done significant damage to small businesses across the country and Canada\u2019s international reputation as a dependable trading partner,\u201d noted Corinne Pohlmann, executive vice president at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, adding: \u201cTo let it carry on any further is negligent and will amplify disruptions of the supply chain.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-in-post-middle\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>In a joint statement, O\u2019Regan and Canada\u2019s transport minister, Omar Alghabra, previously said that workers and employers across Canada cannot face further disruption and that they were looking at all options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been patient. We have respected the collective bargaining process.
