{"id":33282,"date":"2023-04-13T02:21:35","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T23:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/shipping-corp-of-india-privatisation-process-moves-a-step-closer\/33282\/"},"modified":"2023-04-13T02:21:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T23:21:35","slug":"shipping-corp-of-india-privatisation-process-moves-a-step-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/shipping-corp-of-india-privatisation-process-moves-a-step-closer\/33282\/","title":{"rendered":"Shipping Corp of India privatisation process moves a step closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content entry clearfix\">\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-before-post\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>Shares in Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) leapt today following a report carried by <em>Reuters<\/em> that the government would press ahead with the long delayed privatisation process of the Indian flagship.<\/p>\n<p>The government plans to invite financial bids once again for the privatisation of SCI in the middle of next month, <em>Reuters<\/em> reported, citing sources within the government.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the long process towards privatisation, something that has been mooted for years, SCI had to divest itself of a number of non-core assets, which it managed to complete earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>New Delhi\u2019s attempts to privatise the country\u2019s flagship line have been going on for years with many bureaucratic hurdles.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-in-post-middle\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>The approval for strategic divestment of SCI was given by the Union Cabinet in November 2020. A call for expression of interest was floated in December same year for strategic divestment of India\u2019s entire shareholding.<\/p>\n<p>The government received multiple bids in March 2021, however, the demerger process was delayed.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian flagship has a mixed fleet of 52 ships with an average age of 14 years.
