{"id":31511,"date":"2022-09-28T19:05:15","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T16:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/china-rolls-out-its-first-vlcc-with-four-rigid-wing-sails\/31511\/"},"modified":"2022-09-28T19:05:15","modified_gmt":"2022-09-28T16:05:15","slug":"china-rolls-out-its-first-vlcc-with-four-rigid-wing-sails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/china-rolls-out-its-first-vlcc-with-four-rigid-wing-sails\/31511\/","title":{"rendered":"China rolls out its first VLCC with four rigid wing sails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content entry clearfix\">\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-before-post\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>China Merchants Energy Shipping and China Shipbuilding Trading Company have taken delivery of the first ever very large crude carrier (VLCC) built in China featuring four 40 m long rigid wing sails.<\/p>\n<p>The 307,000 dwt vessel built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) has been named<br \/>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color:#00adeb;\" class=\"mt_tooltip\" data-mturl=\"\/en\/ais\/details\/ships\/shipid:7229484\/mmsi:477833400\/vessel:7229484\" data-info=\"NEW ADEN [HK]\" data-photourl=\"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/file\/2022\/09\/China-rolls-out-its-first-VLCC-with-four-rigid-wing.aspx.jpeg\" data-assetname=\"9912000\" data-assettype=\"IMO number\">New Aden<\/span>, and according to the China Classification Society (CCS) it is one of the most advanced VLCCs ever built in China.<\/p>\n<p>The ship sports two pairs of carbon fibre composite rigid wing sails that use airflow to change the flow field on the surface of a specific device, thereby generating propulsion using aerodynamic principles.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/>The sails have a combined surface of around 1200 sq m and are expected to reduce average fuel consumption by nearly 10% on the Middle East to the Far East route, cutting an estimated 2,900 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.
