{"id":30899,"date":"2022-07-26T01:15:17","date_gmt":"2022-07-25T22:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/terminals-at-port-of-oakland-resume-regular-hours\/30899\/"},"modified":"2022-07-26T01:15:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-25T22:15:17","slug":"terminals-at-port-of-oakland-resume-regular-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/terminals-at-port-of-oakland-resume-regular-hours\/30899\/","title":{"rendered":"Terminals at Port of Oakland Resume Regular Hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"text\">\n<p>Marine terminals at California&#8217;s Port of Oakland reopened for regular weekday hours on Monday after independent truckers formally ended a week-long protest of the state&#8217;s new &#8220;gig worker&#8221; law that stranded cargo on ships, docks and warehouses, worsening U.S. supply chain snarls.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of our marine terminals are open this morning and operations are normal,&#8221; a port spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>The law, formally known as AB5, would make it harder for businesses that rely on freelance workers, also known as gig workers, to classify them as independent contractors.<\/p>\n<p>Trucking industry legal challenges have delayed enactment of the law for more than two years.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Supreme Court declined to take up a lawsuit from the California Trucking Association on June 30, clearing the way for an injunction to be lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Independent operator Ricardo Gil said he got out of the line of truckers waiting to enter the port early on Monday after waiting nearly two hours.<\/p>\n<p>Gil, 62, said he wanted to continue protesting, but terminal management and police late last week told drivers they would cite anyone protesting outside designated &#8220;free speech zones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were very close to getting what we want.
