This time broking sources report that the tanker mammoth is closing in on two Daewoo-built VLCCs. The two-year-old 300,000 dwt<br \/>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color:#00adeb;\" class=\"msi_tooltip\" data-msiurl=\"https:\/\/www.msiltd.com\" data-imo=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/euronav-pounces-for-hartrees-last-two-ships\/9855343\">Chelsea<\/span> and the one year older sister vessel<br \/>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color:#00adeb;\" class=\"msi_tooltip\" data-msiurl=\"https:\/\/www.msiltd.com\" data-imo=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/euronav-pounces-for-hartrees-last-two-ships\/9855331\">Ghillie<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"display:none\" src=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/euronav-pounces-for-hartrees-last-two-ships\/9855331\"> are Hartree Partners\u2019 last two ships. The deal has an en bloc price tag of $184m attached.<\/p>\n<p>US-based Hartree Partners has timed the market well. The ships were ordered in 2018 for around $83.5m each. The deal will bring Euronav\u2019s VLCC arm up to 40 ships.<\/p>\n<p>Euronav has been heavily in the news this month following <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/euronav-and-frontline-to-merge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">merger discussions with John Fredriksen\u2019s Frontline<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest benefit from the potential merger according to a recent note from Evercore ISI would be the creation of an equity with a market value that renders the entity \u201ctruly investible\u201d throughout cycles.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-in-post-middle\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>Consultants at Drewry, meanwhile, said the proposed merger is a well-timed move as a countercyclical investment to create a global leading tanker giant ahead of a potential post-pandemic recovery in the market.<\/p>\n<p>Although the proposed merger is unanimously approved by the independent members of Frontline\u2019s board of directors and Euronav\u2019s supervisory board, Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) \u2013 the largest shareholder in Euronav \u2013 has repeatedly stressed it <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/we-dont-need-more-of-the-same-alex-saverys-on-the-battle-for-euronav\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">does not support the proposed merger<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-after-post\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"stream-item stream-item-below-post-content\">\n\t    <!-- \/91333190\/SPLASH247_*_Splash247_Article_*_Strip_Slot_*_2 --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2\">\n<script>\ngoogletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1_95_0_1_2'); });\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"post-bottom-meta post-bottom-tags post-tags-modern\">\n<div class=\"post-bottom-meta-title\">\n<span class=\"tie-icon-tags\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/span> Tags<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"tagcloud\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/tag\/belgium\/\" rel=\"tag\">Belgium<\/a><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>splash247<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the largest names in tanker shipping, Belgian-based outfit, Euronav, is again in the limelight.
