Repsol, the Spanish company that owns the La Pampilla refinery where the accident occurred, claims a lower-volume spill, at about 10,400 barrels.<\/p>\n<p>The spill occurred when d\u2019Amico Fratelli tanker <span style=\"color:#00adeb;\" class=\"mt_tooltip\" data-mturl=\"\/en\/ais\/details\/ships\/shipid:280285\/mmsi:247275900\/vessel:280285\" data-mmsi=\"247275900\" data-imo=\"9446374\" data-dwt=\"158319\" data-yob=\"2009\" data-typename=\"Crude Oil Tanker\" data-typecolor=\"8\" data-countrycode=\"IT\" data-country=\"Italy\" data-info=\"Crude Oil Tanker [IT]\" data-photourl=\"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/file\/2022\/02\/Peruvian-government-says-Repsol-oil-spill-is-double-original-estimate.aspx.jpeg\" data-assetname=\"MARE DORICUM\" data-assettype=\"Vessel\">Mare Doricum<\/span> was discharging oil at one of the refinery\u2019s offshore mooring buoys and was hit by high waves linked to the volcanic eruption on Tonga on January 14. The vessel has been detained by Peruvian officials.<\/p>\n<p>Repsol has said it is cooperating with the investigation and has been actively involved in the clean-up operation.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-in-post-middle\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>A judge last week barred four Repsol executives from leaving the country for 18 months. The executives could face jail time if they\u2019re found responsible for the spill, termed an \u201cecological disaster\u201d by Peruvian officials.
