The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI), a bellwether of the box spot markets, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/scfi-breaks-through-5000-points-for-the-first-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">broke through the 5,000 mark for the first time<\/a><\/span> in its history on December 31.<\/p>\n<p>In dry bulk, the biggest news from the past fortnight emanated from Jakarta where on Saturday the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/indonesia-bans-coal-exports-for-a-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Indonesian government banned coal exports for the month of January<\/a><\/span> over concerns about local power blackouts amid tight supplies. Many ships bound for Southeast Asia\u2019s largest country have been left in limbo by the swift export ban.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mailmunch-forms-in-post-middle\" style=\"display: none !important;\"><\/div>\n<p>In gas shipping, the rise of US Gulf LNG exports, estimated to surpass Australia and Qatar in 2022, as the world\u2019s biggest exporter saw another key chapter signed. Venture Global LNG and CNOOC Gas &amp; Power Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), announced the execution of a 20-year sales and purchase agreement, marking the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/cnooc-signs-its-first-us-lng-supply-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first LNG supply agreement signed by a US exporter with CNOOC<\/a><\/span>, China\u2019s largest importer of LNG.<\/p>\n<p>In offshore, ailing Singaporean liftboat operator <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/ezion-to-be-liquidated\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ezion Holdings will be liquidated<\/a><\/span> after failing to come up with a potential investor it was announced on December 30. Trading of Ezion shares have been suspended since early 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in shipbuilding news, South Korea\u2019s oldest shipyard <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/hanjin-heavy-south-koreas-oldest-shipyard-wins-first-commercial-ship-orders-in-six-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hanjin Heavy Industries &amp; Construction rebranded as is now known as HJ Shipbuilding &amp; Construction (HJSC)<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Daily Splash<\/em> newsletter returns today, featuring the eight most important shipping stories from our correspondents around the globe as well as four offshore news reports.
