While the vetting standards have been refreshed consistently in the past 10-12 years, this is a significant expansion,&#8221; RightShip said. The company has\u202fadded separate and\u202fbrand-new\u202fsections for flag and class, ship structures,\u202fengineering,\u202fand a comprehensive\u202fsection on human rights.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Binary failings have also been made clearer, with the new standard removing any grey areas and enhancing communication of acceptable levels for recommendation, and improved social responsibility measures were also taken. RightShip has included the following binary criterion: \u201cAny vessel Flagged with a country that has not adopted and ratified the 2006 Maritime Labor Convention and without an equivalent level of compliance (for example a valid ITF Agreement).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>RightShip, which\u202fvets\u202fmore than 40,000 vessels a year,\u202fpowered by a global team of\u202fvetting\u202fsuperintendents, said the dry cargo trade will now have MLC checks in place, with its vetting superintendents providing recommendations based on international maritime law and agreements with trade unions.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In writing\u202fthe new standard, the team\u202flistened\u202fand learned\u202ffrom the practices\u202fseen by our\u202fvetting teams, chartering customers\u202fand vessel managers\u202fRightShip has worked to consolidate the trends\u202ffound from\u202fRightShip\u2019s\u202fproprietary vessel vetting service, cleansed incident database and close out reports with the latest industry requirements, to better frame acceptability.\u202f\u202f<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>General additions to the new criteria are as follows:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>All vessels will be reviewed and\u202freceive an\u202f\u201cacceptable\u201d recommendation\u202fwhen they get\u202fa positive outcome from this criteria review.\u202fThis delivers more scrutiny and less room for confusion regarding safety,\u202fsustainability\u202fand social welfare practices.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Steen Lund, CEO, RightShip, said, \u201cThe new standard provides far more consistency for all of our chartering customers. We have listened to feedback to ensure it\u202fis\u202fa unified standard\u202fwhich will be used by all hundreds\u202fof chartering customers.\u202fThis is a positive step forwards in safety standards for the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have seen an\u202fincreased focus on\u202fsocial\u202fwelfare\u202ffor\u202fa vessel\u2019s\u202fcrew during 2020.
