{"id":22441,"date":"2020-12-02T12:34:01","date_gmt":"2020-12-02T09:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/soren-toft-starts-his-ceo-role-at-msc\/22441\/"},"modified":"2020-12-02T12:34:01","modified_gmt":"2020-12-02T09:34:01","slug":"soren-toft-starts-his-ceo-role-at-msc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/soren-toft-starts-his-ceo-role-at-msc\/22441\/","title":{"rendered":"Soren Toft starts his CEO role at MSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption>Soren Toft, Image by MSC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-intro-font-size\">Soren Toft started his new role as Chief Executive Officer of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the world&#8217;s second-largest container shipping firm, on December 2, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He reports directly to Diego Aponte,&nbsp;MSC&nbsp;Group President, and Gianluigi Aponte, Founder and&nbsp;MSC&nbsp;Group Chairman.<\/p>\n<p>In his role as CEO, Soren Toft oversees\u00a0MSC\u2019s\u00a0global\u00a0cargo businesses\u00a0including ocean liner and logistics. He will also be a member of the board of directors of Terminal Investment Ltd (TiL), the terminals business which is majority-owned by\u00a0MSC.<\/p>\n<p>Toft&#8217;s appointment was announced by MSC back in November 2019. He joins\u00a0MSC\u00a0from Maersk, where he served as Chief Operating Officer since 2013 and later as a Member of the Executive Board. <\/p>\n<p>While working for Maersk, Toft oversaw the\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"md-opjjpmhoiojifppkkcdabiobhakljdgm_doc\" href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/260063\/alexander-oetker-we-could-not-be-the-best-owners-for-hamburg-sud\/\" target=\"_blank\">acquisition<\/a>\u00a0and integration of Germany\u2019s\u00a0Hamburg S\u00fcd, a deal which closed in the fourth quarter of 2017. Specifically, the company accounts for 15.9 percent share of the global capacity, or, 3.8 million TEUs, while Maersk accounts for 17 percent of the global capacity equivalent to 4.09 million TEUs, according to the data from Alphaliner.<\/p>\n<p><em> &#8220;The major container shipping lines are among those who weathered the initial stages of this crisis the best with their new strategy of owning less and, instead, chartering ships to give them agility. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They pushed as many ships as they could back to providers, sending the idle fleet skyrocketing.
