The hull was built by Vard Braila and initially the plans for outfitting and delivery was for Vard Brevik, later transferred to Vard Brattvaag,&#8221; <\/em>Vard said.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We have been through an exiting process with technological development and have gained a great amount of knowledge about such type of vessels, which we will continue drawing experiences from going forward. Nevertheless, the autonomous logistics on land have proven to be a challenge for the project. <\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For the autonomous logistics on land the project team continues to look for simplified solutions to this,&#8221; <\/em>the company said.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Yara&#8217;s\u00a0goal is to complete the project and bring the emission-free ship into commercial operation.\u00a0Different ownership models or partnerships will be evaluated for operation and commercialization.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The ship had been\u00a0<a class=\"md-opjjpmhoiojifppkkcdabiobhakljdgm_doc\" href=\"https:\/\/worldmaritimenews.com\/archives\/219669\/video-worlds-first-autonomous-zero-emissions-ship-to-be-ready-by-2020\/\">announced<\/a>\u00a0by Yara and technology company Kongsberg back in 2017 as the world\u2019s first fully-electric container feeder, which will produce zero emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Under the partnership, Kongsberg has been in charge of\u00a0the development and delivery of all key enabling technologies on Yara Birkeland including the sensors and integration required for remote and autonomous operations, in addition to the electric drive, battery and propulsion control systems.<\/p>\n<p>Yara Birkeland features\u00a080 meters in length, 15 meters in width, and can accommodate 120 standard 20-foot containers (TEU).<\/p>\n<p> The vessel is planned to ship products from Yara\u2019s Porsgrunn production plant to Brevik and Larvik in Norway, helping move transport from road to sea and thereby reducing noise and dust, NOx and Co2 emissions. <\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/worlds-1st-zero-emission-container-vessel-yara-birkeland-delivered\/\">World&#8217;s 1st zero-emission container vessel, Yara Birkeland, delivered<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\">Offshore Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>world maritime news<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yara Birkeland; Image courtesy: Vard The long-awaited zero-emission container vessel Yara Birkeland has been delivered to its owner Yara International, Norway-based shipbuilder Vard informed.
