{"id":19800,"date":"2020-10-21T06:38:56","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T03:38:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/kss-line-opts-for-hyundais-smart-ship-solutions\/19800\/"},"modified":"2020-10-21T06:38:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T03:38:56","slug":"kss-line-opts-for-hyundais-smart-ship-solutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/kss-line-opts-for-hyundais-smart-ship-solutions\/19800\/","title":{"rendered":"KSS Line opts for Hyundai\u2019s smart ship solutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption>Gas Venus LPG tanker; Image courtesy: KSS Line<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-intro-font-size\">Hyundai Global Services (HGS), a solutions provider firm of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), has signed a contract to deliver its Smart Ship and Satellite Communications package to\u00a0KSS\u00a0Line&#8217;s LPG carrier fleet.<\/p>\n<p>The Smart Ship and Satellite Communications package is a combination of the ISS \u2013 an IoT platform for ships, developed by HHI Group to support vessel operation and device optimization \u2013 supported by Inmarsat\u2019s dedicated bandwidth service. <\/p>\n<p>This achievement is a direct result of a collaboration between HGS, Intellian and Inmarsat. <\/p>\n<p> Intellian and HGS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2019, and a similar arrangement between HGS and Inmarsat was signed in June 2019 at the Nor-Shipping exhibition in Oslo.<\/p>\n<p>The package will allow large volumes of measured data to be transmitted between ship and shore, facilitating remote operations and vessel management, monitoring and analysis services, through Fleet Connect dedicated bandwidth. <\/p>\n<p>This is separate from the vessel\u2019s Fleet Xpress connection that will be used for day-to-day business traffic and crew internet use.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOur plan is for our entire fleet to be operating using the Integrated Smart Ship and Satellite Communications solutions by 2021,\u201d<\/em> said a spokesman for\u00a0KSS\u00a0Line.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>A total of 15 ships are covered by the contract, including five new vessels and 10 already in operation. The five new ships will be equipped with ISS from build, while the 10 existing vessels will be provided with separate supporting web services to relay weather conditions and ship locations. <br \/>\u00a0<br \/><em>\u201cThis is a breakthrough for our Integrated Smart Ship and Satellite Communications solution and a milestone for maritime digitalisation, delivering always-on IoT in a single package with dedicated bandwidth that can be installed on existing ships or embedded at newbuild,<\/em>\u201d said <strong>Kyoungsoo Ahn<\/strong>, HGS Director.<br \/>\u00a0<br \/><em>\u201cSmart shipping is an area of growth and importance for the maritime industry, with the opportunity for customers to gain efficiencies and cost savings on vessel operations.
