After 90 minutes of firefighting, the fires were confirmed extinguished, the Coast Guard said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Five crew members reported minor injuries sustained during firefighting efforts and were treated by the onboard medical team.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The extent of the damages and cause of the fire are currently under investigation.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\" type=\"3541430e273a0586ca605f2b-text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The Waesche arrived at the United States\u2019 Fleet Forces base in Yokosuka, Japan today for further inspection and potentially repairs.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rapid response and courageous efforts from the crewmembers aboard Waesche to quickly contain and extinguish the fire are a testament to the bravery and skill of this crew,\u201d said Capt. Jason Ryan, Waesche\u2019s commanding officer.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The cutter is under the tactical control of U.S. 7th Fleet as part of routine presence operations in support of the United States\u2019 commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Waesche is the Coast Guard\u2019s second 418-foot Legend-class national security cutter and one of four homeported in Alameda.
