{"id":13075,"date":"2020-07-07T12:01:49","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T09:01:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/spanish-port-in-first-lng-bunkering\/13075\/"},"modified":"2020-07-07T12:01:49","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T09:01:49","slug":"spanish-port-in-first-lng-bunkering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/spanish-port-in-first-lng-bunkering\/13075\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish port in first LNG bunkering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spanish port of Denia recently hosted its first liquefied natural gas bunkering operation supplying the fuel to Balearia&#8217;s ferry.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.offshorewind.biz\/file\/sites\/6\/2020\/07\/07092540\/Spanish-port-of-Denia-recently-hosted-its-first-liquefied-natural-gas-bunkering-operation-supplying-the-fuel-to-Balearias-ferry..jpg\" alt=\"Spanish port in first LNG bunkering\" class=\"wp-image-373158\" \/><figcaption>Image: Balearia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The operation took place last Wednesday at the port located in Spain&#8217;s Alicante province, south of Valencia.<\/p>\n<p>Balearia&#8217;s converted ferry Bahama Mama bunkered the fuel via a truck-to-ship method involving two ESK tankers, according to the Spanish ferry operator.<\/p>\n<p>This was not only the first LNG bunkering operation for Denia but for any port the Valencian government owns, Balearia said.<\/p>\n<p>Puerto Natura, a Balearia company that manages the Denia maritime station, has previously received an approval to conduct LNG bunkering operations.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/balearias-ferry-bunkers-lng-for-first-time\/\">Bahama Mama<\/a> ferry started operations on June 21 following the completion of retrofitting works at Gibraltar\u2019s Gibdock shipyard.<\/p>\n<p>The ferry now features a dual-fuel propulsion and two 280-cbm LNG tanks enabling it to sail about 750 nautical miles.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the ship operates on the ferry route connecting Denia with Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel joins Balearia&#8217;s growing fleet of LNG-powered vessels as the shipping company is looking to reduce emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Bahama Mama is the fifth LNG-powered ferry in the company&#8217;s fleet and the third vessel that has been adapted to be able to sail on LNG.<\/p>\n<p>Balearia expects to take delivery of another retrofitted ferry,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/balearia-to-complete-lng-ferry-conversion-in-july\/\"> Sicilia<\/a>, in July. <\/p>\n<p>The ferry operator plans to have a fleet of nine LNG-powered vessels by the end of 2021 with a total investment of 380 million euros ($428.9m).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/spanish-port-in-first-lng-bunkering\/\">Spanish port in first LNG bunkering<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\">Offshore Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>world maritime news<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spanish port of Denia recently hosted its first liquefied natural gas bunkering operation supplying the fuel to Balearia&#8217;s ferry.
