{"id":12356,"date":"2020-06-25T15:51:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-25T12:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/fastwater-partners-to-explore-commercialisation-of-methanol-as-green-marine-fuel\/12356\/"},"modified":"2020-06-25T15:51:19","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T12:51:19","slug":"fastwater-partners-to-explore-commercialisation-of-methanol-as-green-marine-fuel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/fastwater-partners-to-explore-commercialisation-of-methanol-as-green-marine-fuel\/12356\/","title":{"rendered":"Fastwater partners to explore commercialisation of methanol as green marine fuel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>A consortium of Europe\u2019s maritime research and technology leaders have launched the Fastwater project to demonstrate the feasibility of retrofit and newbuild vessels to operate on methanol as a pathway to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/decarbonization-how-to-order-future-proof-ships-when-we-dont-know-the-end-game\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"fossil-free shipping (opens in a new tab)\">fossil-free shipping<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With funding from the European Commission, Fastwater will focus on high impact outcomes, designing solutions for existing ships and designs for newbuildings, demonstrating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/methaship-renewable-methanol-is-fuel-with-a-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"methanol as a future-proof marine fuel (opens in a new tab)\">methanol as a future-proof marine fuel<\/a> to create a fast track to carbon-neutral shipping, the Port of Antwerp said.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the project aims to commercialise medium and high-speed methanol-fuelled engines for shipping.\u00a0 Consortium members, including original engine manufacturers, shipyards, naval architects, ship owners\/operators, port and maritime authorities, classification, fuel producers, and research institutes, will demonstrate feasibility on three vessels running on methanol fuel &#8212;
