{"id":12076,"date":"2020-06-22T09:24:20","date_gmt":"2020-06-22T06:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/port-of-marseille-fos-looking-to-become-lng-bunkering-hub\/12076\/"},"modified":"2020-06-22T09:24:20","modified_gmt":"2020-06-22T06:24:20","slug":"port-of-marseille-fos-looking-to-become-lng-bunkering-hub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/port-of-marseille-fos-looking-to-become-lng-bunkering-hub\/12076\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of Marseille Fos looking to become LNG bunkering hub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>France&#8217;s Marseille Fos port is boosting the use of liquefied natural gas as fuel as it aims to position itself as an LNG bunkering hub for the Mediterranean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.offshorewind.biz\/file\/sites\/6\/2020\/06\/22065550\/Frances-port-of-Marseille-Fos-looking-to-become-LNG-bunkering-hub-1024x474.jpg\" alt=\"LNG bunkering in Port of Marseille Fos\" class=\"wp-image-369217\" \/><figcaption>Image: Port of Marseille Fos<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The port said in a statement it hosted another ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation last week following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/shell-in-dutch-french-lng-bunkering-firsts\/\">first such operation<\/a> in early May.<\/p>\n<p>LNG giant Shell and the world&#8217;s largest cruise operator Carnival carried out the second LNG bunkering operation in the port on June 15 supplying fuel to the 2019-delivered cruise ship <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/costa-cruises-takes-delivery-of-lng-powered-costa-smeralda\/\">Costa Smeralda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel operated by Carnival\u2019s Costa Cruises is one of the world\u2019s first LNG-powered cruise ships.<\/p>\n<p>Shell supplied the chilled fuel to the cruise ship via Anthony Veder\u2019s converted LNG bunkering vessel Coral Methane.<\/p>\n<p>The French port says this bunkering operation is a part of efforts to position itself as an LNG bunkering hub.<\/p>\n<p>The French port will as of 2021 have a dedicated LNG <a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/chinas-hudong-starts-building-2nd-lng-bunkering-vessel\/\">bunkering vessel <\/a>Total chartered from Japan\u2019s MOL. <\/p>\n<p>This is the second vessel China\u2019s Hudong Zhonghua shipyard is building for the duo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/hudong-delivers-total-chartered-lng-bunker-vessel\/\">The first LNG bunkering vessel <\/a>Total chartered from MOL to serve its CMA-CGM supply deal will also call at the Marseille Fos port.<\/p>\n<p>Both of the vessels have a capacity of 18,600 cubic meters with a length of about 135 meters.<\/p>\n<p>The French port is also a part of the Society for Gas as a Marine<br \/> Fuel (SGMF) and says it is fully supporting the Society&#8217;s efforts of promoting LNG as fuel and developing standards.<\/p>\n<p>SGMF&#8217;s data shows there are 185 LNG-powered ships in operation worldwide and 213 on order. <\/p>\n<p>The post <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\/port-of-marseille-fos-looking-to-become-lng-bunkering-hub\/\">Port of Marseille Fos looking to become LNG bunkering hub<\/a> appeared first on <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.offshore-energy.biz\">Offshore Energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>world maritime news<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>France&#8217;s Marseille Fos port is boosting the use of liquefied natural gas as fuel as it aims to position itself as an LNG bunkering hub for the Mediterranean.
