{"id":11932,"date":"2020-06-19T05:57:45","date_gmt":"2020-06-19T02:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/wartsila-contracted-for-zero-emmissions-ferries-job\/11932\/"},"modified":"2020-06-19T05:57:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T02:57:45","slug":"wartsila-contracted-for-zero-emmissions-ferries-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/wartsila-contracted-for-zero-emmissions-ferries-job\/11932\/","title":{"rendered":"W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 contracted for zero-emmissions ferries job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Finnish technology group W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4\u2019s has been contracted to design and equip two new zero-emissions ferries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.offshorewind.biz\/file\/sites\/6\/2020\/06\/18095334\/W%C3%A4rtsil%C3%A4-contracted-for-zero-emmissions-ferries-job.jpg\" alt=\"W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 contracted for zero-emmissions ferries job\" class=\"wp-image-368731\" \/><figcaption>Courtesy of W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The pair is being built for Norwegian operator Boreal Sj\u00f6 at Holland Shipyards in the Netherlands. <\/p>\n<p>The W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 ship design is tailored to the operating and route profiles of the two double-ended shuttle ferries.  <\/p>\n<p>In addition to the design, W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 will supply the thruster motors, batteries, onboard and shore-based battery charging equipment, the back-up generators, and various electrical systems for each of the ferries. <\/p>\n<p>The equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yard at the beginning of 2021 and the ships are expected to commence commercial operations in autumn 2021, W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 said in its statement.  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These battery-powered ferries represent the future in environmental sustainability, and their design is the result of the years of R&amp;D that W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 has invested in smart marine solutions to lower the carbon footprint of shipping,\u201d says <strong>Ren\u00e9 Zuidam<\/strong>, account manager, newbuild sales, W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 Marine. <\/p>\n<p>The two ferry designs are not identical.
