{"id":11085,"date":"2020-06-05T06:55:15","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T03:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/fire-fighters-injured-battling-blaze-on-car-carrier-in-jacksonville\/11085\/"},"modified":"2020-06-05T06:55:15","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T03:55:15","slug":"fire-fighters-injured-battling-blaze-on-car-carrier-in-jacksonville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/fire-fighters-injured-battling-blaze-on-car-carrier-in-jacksonville\/11085\/","title":{"rendered":"Fire Fighters Injured Battling Blaze on Car Carrier in Jacksonville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville watchstanders were notified at 3:53 p.m. of a fire on board the MV H\u00f6egh Xiamen, a 600-foot vehicle carrier<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The watchstanders immediately notified Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office, issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Mayport 45-foot Response Boat\u2014Medium crew.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said on Twitter that several fire fighters were injured after an explosion.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>All 21 crew members have been safely accounted for.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2020\/06\/04\/firefighters-cargo-ship-catches-fire-at-blount-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a> say as many as nine fire fighters may have been injured, including some serious.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Photos and video posted online shows the black smoke pouring from the vessel.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\" type=\"d3bb95ca5e6d0124a1a37a3d-text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>On scene are\u00a0Coast Guard Station Mayport RB-M crew,\u00a0Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department,\u00a0Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office and\u00a0Blount Island Port Authority.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>A 500-yard safety zone has been established around the MV H\u00f6egh Xiamen.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The 4,900 ceu capacity H\u00f6egh Xiamen\u00a0is registered in Norway and was built in 2010.
