{"id":10977,"date":"2020-06-03T21:35:21","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T18:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/companies-team-up-to-build-worlds-first-shallow-draft-ice-breaking-w2w-vessel\/10977\/"},"modified":"2020-06-03T21:35:21","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T18:35:21","slug":"companies-team-up-to-build-worlds-first-shallow-draft-ice-breaking-w2w-vessel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.al-sindbad.net\/companies-team-up-to-build-worlds-first-shallow-draft-ice-breaking-w2w-vessel\/10977\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies team up to build world\u2019s first shallow draft ice-breaking W2W vessel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><strong>Royal Niestern Sander shipyard and a joint-venture between Mercury Sakhalin and Pola have signed an agreement for the construction of the world\u2019s first shallow draft ice-breaking walk to work vessel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wagenborg was<br \/>\nan intermediary between the parties and has contributed to the project with its<br \/>\noperational experience of sailing in shallow waters with ice-breaking vessels in<br \/>\nthe Caspian Sea and walk to work operations in the North Sea.<\/p>\n<p>The offshore<br \/>\nspecialist said that after delivery in December 2021, Mercury Sakhalin will<br \/>\noperate this vessel on the east coast of Sakhalin for the oil and gas industry.\n<\/p>\n<p>The shallow<br \/>\ndraft ice-breaking walk to work vessel is specially designed and optimized for<br \/>\nyear-round operations in the challenging conditions on the east coast of<br \/>\nSakhalin in temperatures ranging from -30 degrees to +35 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>By combining a shallow draught of 3.15 metres, a transit draught of 4.0 metres in open waters and a grounded bottom notation, the vessel can be deployed year-round.<\/p>\n<p>With Wagenborg<br \/>\nicebreaking technology of the icebreaking hull and pulling Azimuth thrusters,<br \/>\nthe vessel can break through ice up to one metre.<\/p>\n<p>The motion-compensated<br \/>\ngangway on this vessel is optimized for both winter and summer operations,<br \/>\nresulting in multiple gangway positions.<\/p>\n<p>The vessel<br \/>\nwill perform year-round crew transfer services for up to 40 persons from the<br \/>\nshallow Nabil Port to offshore platforms near the east coast of Sakhalin.
